Shipping Shenanigans day 1 report!

Ok all, we had a great first day...  let's keep it going!

Did you miss yesterday's update? It's an important one, so please check it out. The bottom line is we need your help to tackle this global shipping crisis, and we found a way to turn the situation into something very fun and positive for everyone! The key is that we are asking backers to pre-pledge for a special "Shipping Shenanigans" expansion pack - this is optional, but strongly requested

If you are not interested in this special expansion pack but still wish to help out, we also have items available on the same shop page that will allow you to simply contribute some money to help us tackle the increased costs.

On to my day 1 recap video:

Video highlights (in the order they appear):

  • First I first addressed some key questions that came up yesterday.
  • I then went on to talk about some of our upcoming conventions, and specifically mentioned an exclusive event we have planned for Saturday night at GenCon. We'll open up ticket registration for that soon, for anyone who may be headed to GenCon in September.
  • Next I covered how we'll handle community submissions for the new content pieces in Shipping Shenanigans - more details and links are provided in the section below.
  • I closed with general stats from day 1 of our Shipping Shenanigans "mini-campaign." We brought in 300+ pre-pledges over the course of the day, which was a great kick-off!! But we really need to get into the thousands for this to really balance out. So we will continue to engage and work with you all to make this expansion amazing!

Let's get those creative juices flowing! Here are the links to BoardGameGeek where you can submit all your cool and crazy ideas for these new Dungeon Drop pieces:

We can't wait to see what new and interesting ideas you all come up with!

You asked to see more Drop Drive?!

One piece of feedback we heard yesterday was that you'd love to see more of a glimpse into Drop Drive, especially since this Shipping Shenanigans mini-campaign contains content for both Dungeon Drop and Drop Drive.

CAVEAT: Of course we're happy to show you more, but please keep in mind that some of the artwork and graphic design is still in a draft or prototype state. With that said, it's time for you to MEET THE MECHANIDS!

Prototype art

The Mechanids are a robotic, insectoid race that prides themselves on engineering and ingenuity. They literally build their offspring, needing only raw ore materials to bring their visions to life. As the Mechanids are masters of matter, they specialize in advanced ship upgrades. Their homeworld, Hive, has become a hollowed-out planet with a nest of both organic and high-tech tunnels.

The Mechanids are one of five core cultures in the Drop Drive universe. We look forward to showing you more of them over the days and weeks to come!

Our call for help

If you like what you see here, and you want to help us out during this global shipping crisis, please consider pre-pledging for the Shipping Shenanigans expansion pack - many thanks!!

Cheers!

IMPORTANT: Your pledge and our call for help

Greetings Everyone

We've been transparent right along about the effects of global shipping crisis, and now we have crafted our official response to it.

Everything is covered in detail in the following YouTube video (including chapter marks), but I know some people prefer the summarized notes, so those highlights are also provided below (in order as they are covered in the video).

This is an important update, so please watch the video and/or read through the provided highlights. Many thanks in advance!

Video highlights:

  • We believe we've come up with a super creative way to tackle the global shipping crisis, that will offer backers a new opportunity for a great reward, while mitigating the financial impact.
  • Backers are not being forced to pay extra for shipping at this time, BUT we are strongly requesting all backers to participate in the this special expansion pack project designed explicitly to raise funds to cover the financial impact.
  • If you would like more background information on the global shipping crisis, including links to testimonials from experts in this industry, please see our previous KS update #31
  • Overall status of the project is that mass production is done and inventory should be loaded onto boats in about 2 weeks. So we are not holding freight up while we run this new fundraising effort in parallel.
  • The core of the approach here is that we are creating a special expansion pack, called Shipping Shenanigans, that will include premium (and thematically appropriate) content for both Dungeon Drop and Drop Drive (see placeholder images below and deeper explanations in the video).
  • This special expansion pack is available for "PRE-PLEDGE" now on our website at https://www.phaseshiftgames.com/store.html. We are asking folks to purchase this pre-pledge item now, and then it will be automatically included in your Drop Drive pledge (Kickstarter planned for late September launch).
  • I addressed what I think are some questions that will come up, such as "how are we not just adding to the problem?", "how are we making sure we don't run into this problem again with Drop Drive?", "what happens if we get too few or too many people to support this effort?", and so on.
  • I closed the video with a riveting speech about how this is precisely what we do at Phase Shift Games - we shift dimensions and apply creativity and fun in every way we can, even in the face of a massive, laughably bad crisis situation!

Special Expansion Pack Preview Images

The images below are placeholder sketches / concept art. They will be refined over the weeks to come, and we look forward to working with the community to flesh out details and rules! There will also be special, unique components included to support this new content, such as a new huge monster cube for that Monstrous Mimic, and likely some crates and similar components for the Drop Drive content - will be awesome!

Merchant Captain class card for Dungeon Drop - let's design how it works together!
Monstrous Mimic huge monster card for Dungeon Drop: Dropped Too Deep - let's design how it works together!

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for your time and for sticking with us through this difficult time. Cheers!

July update - production update and Drop Drive!
over 2 years ago – Sat, Jul 03, 2021 at 12:36:56 AM

Happy July!

Hope everyone is starting to enjoy their summer and perhaps getting your lives back to some semblance of normalcy! We wanted to update you on the status of Dungeon Drop, and also let you know more about what we've been working on in the meantime. Let's go!

Production Update

Production update

Ok, nothing here should shock anyone at this point. Mass production continues, and is on track to be completed this month. While our factory works to construct the millions (literally!) of bits and pieces, we are simultaneously working to solidify freight and shipping plans with our logistics partners... and that's where the big unknown still exists.

There's no reason to overly repeat ourselves and what you have likely heard from countless other publishers at this point - global shipping remains a massive problem (for all industries, across the entire globe). If you wish to learn more about this, and perhaps hear from some of the biggest names in the tabletop industry, here are some fantastic links for your reference (otherwise, feel free to skip past and keep reading our update!):

So what does this all mean for this campaign? The short answer is, we don't fully know yet, but by our next update we expect to have precise details from our logistics partners. One of the challenges here is that we could base all our plans on existing quotes we've received, from as long ago as 6 months, and as recent as 1 month, but the problem is things are changing DAILY (reference the Freight Index link above). So we need to check the final numbers as close to the moment our inventory is completed and ready to ship from China as possible, with as exact cargo size and weight details as possible. We are doing everything in our power to assure an outcome with the least timing and/or monetary impact. More to come.

Drop Drive Emerges

While we can't control what happens across the globe, we can control what happens in our own design and development efforts, and to that end we are thrilled to be finally getting the word out about Drop Drive!

Drop Drive is the spiritual successor to Dungeon Drop, once again designed by Scott R. Smith. It starts with a similar theme of dropping a bunch of components on the table to generate an infinite galaxy, but from there the two games go in very different directions. Drop Drive is what we like to call a "sandbox" game, whereby you will have direct control over your ship in the galaxy, with the ability to choose your own destiny. Navigate the stars on your individual journey to explore infinite space, mine asteroids, visit planets, pick up and deliver alien passengers, collect strange specimens, battle pirates, and many other freelancer type activities.

Jason Miceli and Scott R. Smith have been running a new livestream series, where each week we take a deep dive look into one of the many aspects of Drop Drive - you can find the entire series on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/c/PhaseShiftGames

We anticipate Drop Drive will hit Kickstarter this fall. We're beyond excited to be finalizing this one, and we can't wait to show you more! You can stay informed on this in one or more of the following ways:

Thanks so much for your ongoing interest and support - we will get you your Dungeon Drop expansions and Tavern Tales soon enough, and in the meantime we look forward to showing you much more of our Drop Drive pizazz!! Cheers!

Production update and other nonsense
almost 3 years ago – Mon, Jun 07, 2021 at 01:27:51 AM

Happy June!

Popping in for a quick update. Enjoy!

Mass production is underway

The digital samples were approved a couple weeks ago (aside from a final decision on the exact material to use for the new Spell Bag), and so our factory is now in full mass production mode. As a reminder, our website's homepage (www.PhaseShiftGames.com) always has the latest version of this chart displayed:

As we have publicized many times, we cannot yet say exactly when backer shipments will go out, due to the global shipping issues and delays that are out of our control. That said, we are in active discussions with our logistics partners, so hopefully we'll start to narrow down a reasonable timeframe soon.

Need to change your address?

As a reminder, you will be able to change your shipping address for a little bit longer. To do so, simply access your original BackerKit pledge manager survey. If you need to recover that link, just go to: https://dropped-too-deep.backerkit.com/

Pre-production sample unboxing

We recently did a livestream unboxing of most of the pre-production samples that you can check out:

We then quickly followed that up with another livestream unboxing of the new limited promo pack:

Drop Drive is starting to creep into the spotlight!

You may have started to see some early prototype images or other snapshots of our next title, Drop Drive! We are so stoked to finally get this one into the spotlight. Scott Smith (the designer of both Dungeon Drop and Drop Drive) was recently interviewed about the game - check it out!:

That's all for now folks - have a great June!

Cheers!!

Production samples rolling in!
almost 3 years ago – Fri, May 07, 2021 at 02:19:15 AM

Hey everyone!

Here's some quick production sample pics and vids from our manufacturer, for your viewing pleasure. But first we'll give a general progress update. Onward!

Progress update

We've added a new progress chart to our homepage at www.PhaseShiftGames.com that you can check anytime you wish. Here's a quick snapshot, showing the latest progress of each of our projects:

As you can see, we're now in the pre-production sample phase for the latest campaign, awaiting those final samples from our manufacturer. Then mass production can begin.

You will also notice the "TBD" indicated in the Backer shipments row...  this should not be a surprise, as we have been fully transparent with you right along. As soon as we are able to figure out a reasonably accurate delivery timeframe, we will let you know. But at the moment, we are simply at the mercy of the global shipping situation, and until we get closer to having inventory ready to load onto boats we cannot provide a better estimate.

Production samples

Here's some of the latest pics and vids we've received from our manufacturer. To say we're excited about what we're seeing would be the understatement of the year! In no particular order...

Wizards & Spells: Spell bag embroidery
Dropped Too Deep: Forbidden Pillars
Dropped Too Deep: Molten Shields
Stringy Thingy: Custom branding

That's it for today folks. Hope you like what you see - we sure do! Cheers!
